My 2011 Review

Dec 31, 2011

It seems like another year has passed again, and just like last year, I decided to take a moment to review the past year for me.

Wunderkraut

It's been a fantastic ride starting a new company with fellow Drupalists Andreas Sahle, Daniel Nolde and Reinhard Gloggengiesser. We started working together in the fall of 2010, but it's in March 2011 that the company was officially founded. Even within its young existence, we've managed to give our company a name in the community. We have some exiting plans for 2012 and I'm just thrilled to be part of such a great team.

Music

After a long break from playing in public, I finally got back on stage, getting familiar with the local scene and playing at a few open mic nights. Playing solo made it easy to be spontaneous and play without much organizational hassle. It's been a fun experience and I will continue to play more shows.

I also played a few shows and did a recording as a multi-instrumentalist with Colibri Project. Switching between the cello, guitar, piano, bass and vocals has been a lot of fun, even if it meant carrying many instruments to every gig. Playing alone has many advantages, but playing with other people is just a totally different kind of fun, especially when they're great musicians.

DrupalCon

While not a full surprise, taking the lead on the 2012 european DrupalCon wasn't exactly on my radar one year ago. This position evolved from being present at the first discussions to announcing DrupalCon Munich in London last August and building the local team in the past few months. This is only the beginning, but I'm very excited about this project and the potential to make a difference in the european Drupal market.

Resolutions status

From all the resolutions I took for 2011 one year ago, I have to say that the results are mixed. Some goals were reached, many were not, but overall I'm pretty happy and I have learned what kinds of goals work and what kinds don't. I'm going to publish my resolutions again, as they have been a helpful tool to help me keep track of my progress.
